Utah nonprofit to host event dedicated to native plants

PARK CITY, Utah — Save Our Canyons has partnered with Park City Gardens to host an event dedicated to Utah native plants. 

Boost Biodiversity: Native Plants will feature live music, presentations by local nonprofits, and a native plant sale. Park City Gardens will host the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 18. 

“We’ll have presentations from some Save Our Canyons experts [and] staff about Utah’s native plants [and] plants native to the Wasatch mountains and you can learn a little bit more all about save our canyons and what we do on the day to day,” said Spencer Shaver, the executive director of Save Our Canyons.

WNZN Power 89.1 FM hosting ‘Summer Slam’ concert event

Two years ago, Mark Ballard, CEO of 89.1 Power FM in Lorain, took home the station’s first Stellar Award for Medium Market of the Year.

This year, the station claimed a similar honor, but on a much larger stage.

The station won Top Market of the Year at the 39th annual Stellar Awards, Ballard said.

On Aug. 18, the station will host a celebratory Summer Slam event at Faith Ministries Christian Church, 1306 Euclid Ave. in Lorain.

“We’re the top gospel music station in the country this year for the Stellar Awards,” Ballard said. “The Stellar Awards, or the gospel music awards, is our equivalent to the Grammys for gospel music.

“They go for radio and for artists. We came out as the number one station in the country.”

Trenton hosting Summer Lead Awareness event, Back to School Edition Saturday

TRENTON — The City of Trenton Department of Health and Human Services is excited to announce the Summer Lead Awareness Series: Back to School Edition, a community event aimed at raising awareness about the risks of lead exposure as families prepare for the upcoming school year. The event will take place on Saturday, August 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cadwalader Park in the Blacktop Area near the Museum.

Residents of Trenton are encouraged to bring household items that they or their children use daily for onsite lead testing. The city will provide free testing for a range of items, including but not limited to:
