Jeopardy! legends are household names these days—and thanks to their quizzing prowess, they make tournaments and other specials that much more fun to watch. Jeopardy! Masters is the next spectacle on the docket, premiering May 1 and featuring reigning Masters champ James Holzhauer; Season 1 Masters finalists Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach; Tournament of Champions (ToC) winner Yogesh Raut; and Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament (JIT) champ Victoria Groce. Longtime Jeopardy! fans are being treated to an embarrassment of riches with the Invitational Tournament that’s currently airing in syndication. Some of our favorite contestants of the current and past eras are returning to Sony Pictures Studios to face off against one another for the opportunity to advance to Jeopardy! Masters, and for some of them, that means they’re competing for the first time without Alex Trebek as the host. One returning champion, Celeste DiNucci, shared her opinion about how Ken Jennings is doing, and she pointed out one thing the GOAT has that his predecessor didn’t.

When longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek died of pancreatic cancer in Nov. 2020, rumors swirled around who would step up to take over the job. The game show welcomed a series of guest hosts as an audition of sorts, with the full-time gig eventually going to then-executive producer Mike Richards. His stint did not last long, however. Richards was axed after just one day of hosting in 2021 after an investigation prompted by The Ringer’s expose on his offensive comments and an lawsuit he faced in one of his former game show jobs. Now, Richards, who was also relieved of his executive producer role, is speaking out about the scandal—and the other hosting candidates who he believes were best suited for the job.

“Jeopardy!” host Ken Jennings is celebrating the long-running game show’s broad appeal with audiences.

In a new interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Jennings said, “The great and the odd thing about ‘Jeopardy!’ is, it’s kind of universally popular. Old people like ‘Jeopardy!,’ young people like ‘Jeopardy!,’ red states, blue states. It’s bizarrely universal.”

He continued, “America still agrees that there’s, like, a half-hour every day where facts do matter, and we are allowed to adjudicate things as right or wrong actually based on science and history. And I do think that’s an important bulwark.”

Jennings reflected on his long-standing interest in game shows, which began as a Mormon kid growing up in Korea.
