What is: ‘cracking under pressure?’

Mayim Bialik asks the questions on Jeopardy — but that doesn’t mean she thinks she could answer them.

In an interview with Bill Maher on his podcast Club Random, the Blossom and Big Bang Theory actress explained how she thinks she’d fare as a contestant on the game show.

“There’s a rhythm that winners get into – there’s a huge psychological component,” Bialik said. “If you get something wrong, it can be debilitating. I would cry, I think.”

Bialik made it clear that she’s not the one writing the questions on Jeopardy. “People ask if I know all that stuff, and I’m like, ‘no.’ No,” she said. “Answering things like that under pressure with a timer is not gonna happen for me. It’s hard!”

While the Writers Guild of America strikes are over and productions across America are resuming, the classic syndicated Jeopardy! game show is canceled indefinitely.

Ever since 1984, Jeopardy! has been broadcast on TV sets all across the United States. Created by Merv Griffin, the show that many know and love today first began in the mid-80s with the late host Alex Trebek leading the gameshow proceedings. Other versions aired during the 60s and 70s.

Unfortunately, Trebek passed away in November 2020 after a 20-month battle with stage IV pancreatic cancer. His death shocked the world, and the process of finding his replacement — someone who could live up to his almost 40-year quiz show legacy — was on.

For over a month, Ken Jennings has received a great deal of flack for choosing to continue hosting Jeopardy! amid a writers’ strike. Even with the backlash, he has powered through. Now he has an opportunity to host a show and has taken it! The series gives an update about the host and contestants.

Ken Jennings Doesn’t Back Down

Some of the pushback came from Ken Jennings continuing to host during a writers’ strike. While his counterpart Mayim Bialik left filming during Season 39. Many fans were happy about it, but one said, “@KenJennings You’re a disgrace if you’re trying to cross picket lines. Alex [Trebek] would NEVER do anything of the sort. In the latest episode of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, Jeopardy!‘s longtime producer, Sarah Whitcomb Foss, shared the advice she gave to Mayim Bialik when she first began hosting the show, and the ways they asked her to change.

Bialik was named one of the official hosts of Jeopardy! in 2022 alongside former super-champ Ken Jennings. It was a bit of a learning curve for both, but particularly for Bialik, who found it difficult to hide her astonishment at the contestants’ vast knowledge.
