Jeopardy Host Mayim Bialik Drops Out of Show Due to Writers’ Strike

Jeopardy! is getting a major change as a result of the ongoing Writers’ Guild of America strike. On Thursday, reports revealed that Jeopardy! host Mayim Bialik has walked away from hosting the final week of episodes for Season 39, in order to stand in solidarity with the writers’ strike. Ken Jennings, who also hosts episodes of the iconic game show, will reportedly step in to host Bialik’s episodes, which will be filmed between Tuesday, May 16th and Friday, May 19th. While Jeopardy! is technically a WGA production, the contributions of questions from WGA writers were written in advance of the strike.

A sequel to the 2003 comedy Freaky Friday, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who swap bodies, is officially in the works, with Curtis and Lohan both in talks to return. Disney confirmed the news to the New York Times for a piece tied to the 20th anniversary of the film, and Elyse Hollander is writing the script. Mayim Bialik Bows Out of ‘Jeopardy’ in Solidarity With Writers Strike

The co-host won’t be presenting any shows for the remainder of Season 39.


Jeopardy! has become the latest high-profile production to be impacted by the ongoing strike undertaken by the Writers’ Guild of America, as the show has temporarily lost one of its co-hosts as a result of the industrial action. Deadline reports that co-host Mayim Bialik has taken the decision to step back from hosting the final week of filming for the show’s 39th season, choosing to stand in solidarity alongside the writers of the show who are refusing to work. Jeopardy! is the most-watched show in syndication with around 9 million viewers weekly and is the second most-watched same-day entertainment show on TV after only 60 Minutes.

‘Jeopardy!’ Hit With Mayim Bialik Absence But Continues Production – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Jeopardy! has become one of the first game shows to be impacted by the writers strike.

Deadline understands that host Mayim Bialik decided against hosting the final week of filming for season 39, standing in solidarity with the striking writers.

However, we understand that production on the final run of episodes for the season is going ahead with Ken Jennings taking over hosting duties. The final episodes of the season will be filmed at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City between Tuesday May 16 and Friday 19 May.

Jeopardy!, which is produced by Sony Pictures Television, is a WGA show and features contributions from WGA writers, but the questions were written in advance of a season and the strike.

When a clip of 47-year-old Mayim hosting was shared on the official Jeopardy! Facebook page, people did not hold back.

“I don’t enjoy the show when Mayim is hosting. I be glad when Ken is back. Wish it was permanent (sic),” one fan admitted.

“I totally agree, Ken sooo much better than Mayim! I sure wish ken was in charge ALL THE TIME!”…
