Parler app once hailed as conservative Twitter alternative yanked by new owners

Parler, a social media app that with low content moderation measures that catered to conservatives, will be taken down by its new owners, according to a Friday announcement. 

The app was acquired by the digital media company Starboard, formerly known as Olympic Media. Parler had been floundering after it was briefly pulled from mainstream app stores and Amazon’s web hosting service

Starboard’s announcement said that the app as it is “currently constituted will be pulled down from operation to undergo a strategic assessment.”

Parler app to launch web hosting for “canceled” companies

No matter where you fall on political lines, we can all agree that Donald Trump’s presidency really shook things up on social media. From Trump receiving a lifetime ban on Twitter to the launch of “censorship-free” social media app, Parler, politically charged content has forever changed the way social media apps manage content.

The folks behind Parler are now taking things one step further to aid companies who fear they may be “canceled.” On Friday, Parler announced the acquisition of cloud company, Dynascale, with the intent to restructure and provide a platform of cloud-based services for businesses that may be at risk of being banned by major providers.

Parler Subpoenas Twitter In Suspension Case Against Amazon

By Khorri Atkinson (February 23, 2022, 4:25 PM EST) — Conservative microblogging platform Parler said Wednesday that it has subpoenaed Twitter for documents concerning its alleged collusion with Amazon Web Services Inc., which led to the suspension of Parler’s web hosting account last year following the deadly U.S. Capitol riot.

The company said in a statement that the subpoena issued by a Washington state court as part of Parler’s breach of contract and defamation lawsuit against AWS demands a wide range of documents to challenge the “continuing abuse of power and anti-competitive conduct of Big Tech companies, harming individuals and businesses who don’t conform to their viewpoints.”

Parler hosting company’s code offered up for sale online

The source code and database of DDoS-Guard, the web hosting platform of the controversial social media company Parler has apparently been posted for sale online.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the original hosting provider for the beleaguered social network, pulled the plug earlier this year over apparent insufficiencies in Parler’s content moderation policy.
