I’ve always just run them on the same server and made sure that there is idle CPU available and enough ram for MariaDB to use all it needs in operation.
That said 10 years ago we were hosting out of 4~8GB servers where as these days servers at most larger providers are 256GB+.
Except for those pesky Ryzen users that can only get 128GB per box
