National Disability Employee Awareness Month is in October — and Long Beach plans to honor that by hosting its first job fair for people with disabilities.
The city has partnered with the Disabled Resources Center, Mental Health America of Los Angeles, the California Department of Rehabilitation and Pacific Gateway Network to put on the job fair, which will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Civic Center Plaza and City Hall Lobby.
Long Beach is home to nearly 50,000 residents with disabilities, according to the city’s press release. A third of those people are unemployed and continue to face barriers of preconceived notions obstructing many employment opportunities, the city said.
